Before reading this article, please make sure you are familiar with Assignments, and LTI.
To get started, students will need to click a link to an assignment in an LMS in order to activate that assignment.
Example of student-facing assignment link in Canvas:
Clicking that link will take the student to the first section of the assignment.
Once a student has activated the assignment, every time they complete an activity in that assignment, their score is sent to the grade book.
Note: Grade passback will not work as expected if the assignment is hidden from students
Students can view their progress by scrolling to the bottom of any section in that assignment.
If a zyBook has multiple linked assignments, students will need to click on each assignment link to activate that assignment. For example, say you have 3 assignments and they are named, "Assignment 1", "Assignment 2" and "Assignment 3". When a student clicks the link to activate "Assignment 1" they are only activating "Assignment 1". The student will be able to view "Assignment 2" and "Assignment 3" but those scores will not be sent until the student has activated those assignments as well.
When a student navigates to an assignment that they have not activated that assignment yet, they will see the following warning.
Any work completed by a student before the assignment has been "activated" is recorded on our end but will not be sent to the LMS until the assignment has been activated. Once a student activates an assignment, they will still need to either complete an activity or click the "Submit" button for the assignment on the "Assignments" tab in their zyBook.
Students can force a grade push on an activated assignment by navigating to the "Assignments" tab. A student may wish to do this if they completed their assignment before they activated the assignment link.
