Wiley measures accessibility according to the standards set by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 A/AA, Revised Section 508 of the US Rehabilitation Act, and EN 301 549, and aims to ensure that our products are compatible with screen readers.
A screen reader is a software application that announces what is on screen including text, links, buttons, forms, and images. They provide access to the entire operating system and applications including browsers and web content. People who are blind or partially sighted use a screen reader, as well as people with cognitive or learning disabilities who find it helpful to listen to what's on-screen instead of looking at it.
For those who rely on screen readers, we recommend the following operating system, browser, and assistive technology combinations:
- Mac OSX: Safari and VoiceOver
- Windows:
- Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox and NVDA
- Google Chrome and JAWS
- Mobile/touchscreen devices:
- iOS: Safari & VoiceOver
- Android: Google Chrome & TalkBack
Please note that zyBooks math content is generated via a third-party tool called MathJax. This tool uses various markup languages to generate math formulae, including MathML. Screen reader support for MathJax and MathML is strong but, depending on the screen reader you use, you may need to switch to a different browser or download an additional plugin so that the screen reader reads the content in an expected manner.
