Text-to-speech (TTS) software converts text that is visible on the screen into speech. Users who are visually impaired or have reading difficulties can benefit from TTS software.
While Wiley products do not include bespoke TTS functionality, they are developed to support TTS software already included in most operating systems, including Windows, Chrome OS, and macOS. If you need to use TTS, we recommend that you use the following tools when accessing Wiley products:
- Windows: Narrator
- Chrome OS: ChromeVox
- macOS: Spoken Content
If you are blind or visually impaired, we recommend using a screen reader, as they offer much more functionality than most TTS software, such as the ability to describe images and to support easier navigation to and within websites and other applications. Again, Windows, Chrome OS, and MacOS include a built-in screen reader. On Windows and Chrome OS, screen reader functionality is provided by Narrator and ChromeVox respectively, while macOS includes a specific screen reader called VoiceOver.
If you use a Windows machine, there are third-party screen readers that you can download and install. We recommend the following screen readers:
There are no third-party screen readers available for Chrome OS or macOS.
