Activating assignments
To get started, students will need to click a link to an assignment in an LMS in order to activate that assignment.
Example of student-facing assignment link in Canvas:
Clicking that link will take the student to the first section of the assignment.
When a student navigates to an assignment that they have not activated, they will see the following warning.
To resolve this error, students should make sure they are clicking the correct link in the LMS.
Any work completed by a student before the assignment has been "activated" is recorded on our end but will not be sent to the LMS until the assignment has been activated. Once a student activates an assignment, they will still need to either
- complete an activity in the assignment (they can redo a previous activity if needed)
- click the "Submit" button for the assignment on the "Assignments" tab in their zyBook.
Please see the following student-facing LMS-specific guides that can also be shared with students

When do scores send
Anytime a student completes an activity in an activated assignment, their score is sent to the grade book as long as the zyBooks due date has not passed. Scores are sent continuously for each new point earned.
Students can continue to work on assignments past the due date, and their work will be recorded, however, any work completed after the due date does not count towards the assignment and is not sent to the LMS.
If a zyBook has multiple linked assignments, students may need to click on each assignment link to activate that assignment. For example, say a zyBook has 3 assignments named, "Assignment 1", "Assignment 2" and "Assignment 3". When a student clicks the link to activate "Assignment 1" they are only activating "Assignment 1". The student will be able to view "Assignment 2" and "Assignment 3" but those scores will not be sent until the student has activated those assignments as well.
Students can view their progress by scrolling to the bottom of any section in that assignment.
How to force scores to send
Students
Students can force a grade push on an activated assignment by navigating to the "Assignments" tab. From there they can click the blue "Submit to ___" button.
A student may wish to do this
- if they completed their assignment before they activated the assignment link.
- the assignment due date was recently updated
- an error occurred where their score did not send correctly
Instructors
Instructors can either send a score for an individual student, a class section, or the entire class.
To do so, navigate to the assignment on the Assignments tab. Then select the student or group of students from the drop down menu.
Then, select the blue "Submit to ___" button at the bottom of the assignment.
A success message will appear when the submission is complete.
