zyBooks offers 2 methods of linking from an LMS to a zyBook.
The main feature of deep linking is that it allows instructors to select zyBooks content to link to all at once, without having to leave the LMS. This process will create new links and grade items within the LMS.
Single LTI Linking is best for:
- If you copied an LMS shell from a previous term and have the unconfigured “link stubs” in your LMS. You may be able to take advantage of Auto-linking if you are using LTI 1.3.
- If you plan on creating assignments and their links as you go week-by-week.
- We generally recommend setting up all your assignments/links before the term starts, but we do understand that some instructors may prefer this approach.
- If you only have access to LTI 1.1. (Deep linking is only available for LTI 1.3.)
*** If you deleted the link association from the LMS to the zyBook via Manage LMS links (eg. to correct a misconfigured link), then when you go back to re-link the existing link stub on the LMS side, singular LTI linking would be the best approach. Deep linking creates new grade items and links in the LMS, which would not be needed for this case.
Deep linking is best for:
- If you have no pre-existing assignment links in your LMS, and you do have existing assignments in your zyBook.
- The Deep linking process allows you to link all your existing zyBook assignments and create the corresponding links/grade items in your LMS with just a few clicks.
- If you have no pre-existing assignment links in your LMS, and you also don’t have any assignments in the zyBook.
- You will still need to create your zyBooks assignments first, but after that, you can use Deep Linking to link them at once.
- If you just switched from LTI 1.1 to 1.3.
- When switching from 1.1 to 1.3, in most LMSs, you will need to completely delete the old 1.1 links and re-create 1.3 links. Deep linking can help speed up this process, especially if you have a lot of links to re-create.
